Another invader

The Mediterranean Fan Worm; this gorgeous but highly invasive litte creature has been found in Lyttleton harbour.  A quick google search showed this document (Sept 2001) http://www.biodiversity.govt.nz/pdfs/seas/mediterranean_fanworm_action_plan.pdf
which states that the wee worm can
reach densities of up to 300/m2, has a rapid growth rate and can regenerate from fragments.
It also states that there is little research [...]

Guess what I bought!

I bought one of these

Which turns into one of theses and can be put up almost anywhere in NZ

Last manufactured in 1979 it is the cream of camping cleverness.  Up in 30 secs flat (sans awning), settled and gin in hand in under 1 minute 30

I’d better comment on the budget…

And?
The budget wasn’t supposed to be a game of snooker you know, spending all the money thinking you would make National squirm.  What a fool.  National won’t squirm.  They have got a bigger plan for New Zealand than ‘a budget’.

Our Newspaper rubbish

The daily angst and disappointment of walking to the letterbox to get the paper has finally gotten the better of me. So here it is “Our newspaper is rubbish”.  I want it to be better but it ain’t and Hawke’s Bay Today should really get their shite together.
We used to have two exceptional daily rags, The [...]

It’s duck-shooting season, yum

Last night it was sauteed duck breast with a mushroom and red wine sauce…devine.

Food Prices up

Food prices have increased by 0.3% in April alone and rose 6% for the year to April 2008.  Yep it’s hurting and people will be feeling this when they go to the polls later this year.
Interestingly non-alcoholic beverages dropped 2.7% last month but in the last year butter has risen by 86%!!

I’m back

No the snow hasn’t melted; that won’t happen until July sometime but my god there’s just some stupidity that brings a girl out of ‘retirement’.
The government’s (lowercase intended) bought back the railway and sundry other bits and bobs for $235 million MORE than the seller had it valued at.
STUPIDITY!!! Do they not know it’s a buyers [...]
